Phare des Pierres Noires (German: Lighthouse of Black Rocks ) is the name of a lighthouse , standing on a rock in front of the Saint-Matthieu Peak in Molène - Archipelago was built. It marks the entrance to the Bay of Brest .
Construction of the tower, for which 325,000 gold francs were estimated, began in 1867. After its completion in 1871, the first beacon was put into operation on May 1, 1872. The originally installed mineral oil firing was replaced in 1903 by an oil vapor lamp. In 1984 the lighting was finally switched to electricity.
The tower has been automated since 1992 and is no longer inhabited. It is steered from the lighthouse Créac'h on Quessant . It has a range of 19.5 nautical miles.
