Phare des Poulains (German: lighthouse of the foals ) is the name of a lighthouse on the northwest tip of the island of Belle-Île , which belongs to the French commune of Sauzon in the Morbihan department . It has a range of about 23 nautical miles . At spring tide , the lighthouse is cut off from the island.

It was electrified in 1950 and has been automated since 1987.

Solar panels

The tower supplies itself with electricity by means of 32 m² solar panels integrated in the roof . The output is 3 kilowatts peak . With 800 Ah batteries, the lighthouse can be operated for up to 10 days without the sun. A 7.5 kWh generator is available as protection.
