Phil Thomas Davies (born October 19, 1963 in Seven Sisters , Wales , United Kingdom ) is a former Welsh rugby player and current national rugby coach of the Namibian rugby union team . Davies played in rugby union in the positions of winger , number 8 or as a second-row striker .

Davies also owns a sports marketing company.

Career

Davies spent his entire club career from 1982 to 1995 with Llanelli RFC in his native Wales. He won the Welsh Premier Division in 1993 and the WRU Challenge Cup in 1985, 1988, 1991, 1992 and 1993.

National team

For the Welsh rugby union team , Davies played 46 times between 1985 and 1995, scoring 21 points. The greatest successes were the winners of the Five Nations in 1988 and 1994 and the Triple Crown in 1988.

Trainer

After the end of his playing career, Davies moved to the coaching office. He initially trained Leeds Tykes in England from 1996 to 2006 . Davies was then responsible for the Welsh club Llanelli Scarlets until 2008 and from 2008 to 2010 he was the national coach of the Welsh U-20 national team. This was followed by coaching positions at the Worcester Warriors in England (2010 to 2012), Cardiff Blues (2012–2014) and RGC 1404 (2014–2016). Davies has been Namibia's national coach since 2016 . At the same time, he worked for his players' club Llanelli RFC in 2017 and 2018. Davies also advised the Worcester Warriors in 2017 and the Nuneaton RFC in 2018

Davies won the Africa Cup in 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018 with the Namibian selection . He also took part in the 2015 and 2019 World Championships as the Namibian national coach .
