Phil Shoenfelt (also: Phil Shöenfelt , born December 18, 1952 in Bradford , Great Britain ) is a British singer , songwriter , musician, lyricist and novelist.

Life

Shoenfelt first lived in New York , where he founded the post-punk band Khmer Rouge in 1981 together with Barry "Scratchy" Myers (tour DJ for The Clash ) and Marcia Schofield ( The Fall ). In 1989 he released his first solo single "Charlotte's Room" in the UK, produced by Mark E. Smith and Tony Cohen . His first solo album "Backwoods Crucifixion" was released by Paperhouse Records in 1990, followed three years later by "God Is The Other Face Of The Devil". He has lived in Prague since 1995, where the band Phil Shöenfelt & Southern Cross was formed. In November 1997 he went on tour in Germany with Nikki Sudden & Band, where he played the supporting act. The highlights of this tour were the cover version of Can's “Mother Sky”. In 1998 Phil Shoenfelt and Nikki Sudden recorded the album "Golden Vanity" together, which was released in April 2009 by Easy Action Records.

His novel Junkie Love won first prize in the New York literature competition "Firecracker Alternative Books Awards 2002". The autobiographical story has so far appeared in Italian, Czech and English.

In 2004 the German label Phantasmagoria Records released the best-of double CD "Deep Horizon - Selected Songs of Phil Shoenfelt". Two years later, Cinderella Effect covered Phil Shoenfelt's song "Darkest Hour", included on their debut album "Pearls". In March 2007 Fatal Shore's third album "Real World" was released by Amboss Recordings. Also in spring 2007 the Spanish label Sunthunder released the Nikki Sudden tribute album "Suddenly Yours", for which Phil Shoenfelt and his band recorded the Sudden classic "Death Is Hanging Over Me". On November 1, 2010, Phil Shoenfelt & Southern Cross' fourth studio album "Paranoia.com" was released.

In spring 2011 Shoenfelt formed a new band, Dim Locator , named after a song from the birthday party, together with Chris Hughes and Dave Allen ( Hugo Race & The True Spirit ) . In July 2011 Fuego released her first download EP with three Rowland S. Howard songs.

To mark the 20th anniversary of his band Southern Cross , the anniversary concert was recorded on August 5, 2014 and released in June 2015 as a live CD "The Bell Ringer - Live At The Shot-Out Eye".

On January 10, 2020, Shoenfelt's new solo studio album Cassandra Lied was released on Sireena Records . The album was recorded in Prague between August 2018 and November 2019. As a guest musician, u. a. Kristof Hahn , Chris Hughes , Eva Turnová and Marcia Schofield with.
