Philibert I , called the hunter (born August 7, 1465 in Chambéry , † September 22, 1482 in Lyon ) was Duke of Savoy from 1472–1482.

Philibert was the son of Duke Amadeus IX. and Jolanthe von Valois , sister of the French king Louis XI. who took over the reign of Philibert, who was still a minor when his father died in 1472. In order to promote relations with the powerful neighbor Milan , Jolanthe married her son in 1476 at the age of 11 to Bianca Maria Sforza , daughter of Duke Galeazzo Maria Sforza . At that time, however, Savoy fell into a deep crisis when the Swiss Confederates seized Vaud in 1475 and kidnapped Duke Charles the Bold of Burgundy Jolanthe near Geneva in 1476. King Louis XI. however, they managed to get them free again. However, she died in 1478. The new guardian of the now 13-year-old duke was the Bishop of Geneva.

Philibert was growing up, but mainly occupied himself with celebrations and hunts, which is where his nickname comes from. Louis XI. tried to use this situation and to strengthen his influence on Savoy. Philibert then died childless at the age of 17, so that rule passed to his brother Karl I , who was also underage at 14 . Philibert's widow Bianca Maria later married the German King Maximilian I , who in 1508 named himself "Roman Emperor" with papal approval.
