Philip Carlo

Philip Carlo ( April 18, 1949 , † November 8, 2010 ) was an American journalist who wrote successful biographies about the American criminals Thomas Pitera , Richard Kuklinski , Anthony Casso and Richard Ramirez .

Philip Carlo was born in Bensonhurst , Brooklyn , New York . He was involved in gang crime in his youth and he was shot in connection with it. Due to an illness, he used a wheelchair. One of his most successful books is the biography of serial killer Richard Ramirez, who had been convicted of numerous feminicides. He had long conversations with the convicted mafia killers Richard Kuklinski and the former Lucchese boss Anthony Casso, from which biographies emerged.

Inspired by his book on the life Kuklinskis the feature film was 2012 The Iceman of Ariel Vromen in which Michael Shannon in the title role of the criminal plays.

Carlo suffered from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis ( ALS ), from which he died in 2010 at the age of 61.
