(2017-present)

Philip James DeFranco Jr. (born Philip James Franchini Jr. , formerly also known as sxephil ; born December 1, 1985 in New York ) is an American web video producer . Under the title Philip DeFranco Show (PDS), he publishes short videos daily on his YouTube channel, mostly ironic about a mixture of current affairs, politics and pop culture. On his second YouTube channel, Philly D , he publishes vlogs and other videos that he records with his team at DeFrancoNetworks.

Life

On September 15, 2006, DeFranco created the "sxephil" channel on YouTube during his final exams at East Carolina University , the videos of which he himself designed, moderated and edited .

On April 22, 2010, he announced the official end of the show - he later stated that this was related to some legal complications, including the name of the show. He started a new show he called NSFW ("Not Safe For Work"), which was basically the same format with minor changes. However, shortly afterwards, on May 10th, he was able to revert to the original name of the show.

In 2008, with the help of his large YouTube following, he was voted “Sexiest Geek of 2008”, a Wired competition in which readers vote. In October of the same year he starred with Jessica Rose and Kevin Wu in Hooking Up, a 10-episode web series from HBOLabs, the online arm of HBO .

In November 2009 he founded the review channel LikeTotallyAwesome on YouTube, which he produces and moderates with various others. The show deals with all topics related to film, video games and technology. In July 2010 he also founded iPhoneDefranco , a channel for unedited vlogs that he uploads directly from his iPhone 4. In the same month he founded CuteWinFail , a channel in which three short clips per video from the eponymous categories are shown and rated by the audience. This channel is moderated by Toby Turner (Tobuscus).

At the end of August 2011 he founded the channel StuffPhilLikes , also on YouTube, on which he uploaded videos in playlist form every day - with the exception of Sundays - in which he presented other YouTube channels and videos. Mostly by including a video of the channel in question in the playlist. The channel Hi I'm Phil has since been renamed and has been inactive since November 23, 2011.

On January 23, 2012, his new YouTube channel SourceFed started , which he operated with three other YouTubers. The channel was discontinued in March 2017.

In May 2017, DeFranco announced that he owned the Philip DeFranco and Philly D channels again after the purchase by revision3 in 2013 and announced the establishment of a news network, which should be realized through crowdfunding via Patreon .

income

In a 2008 interview, DeFranco stated that he currently earns over $ 250,000 a year, from multiple sources. He was paid, among other things, for videos promoting Carl's Jr.'s Burger and the US television series Lie to Me and Fringe .
