Philipp Lonitzer
Philipp Lonitzer or Philipp Lonicer (Latinized Lonicerus ) (* 1543 in Marburg ; † July 30, 1599 in Friedberg ) was a German historian and Protestant theologian.
life and work
Lonitzer was a son of the Marburg theologian Johann Lonitzer and the younger brother of the doctor and naturalist Adam Lonitzer . On November 23, 1568, the City Council of Frankfurt am Main appointed him rector of the municipal grammar school . On July 27, 1576 he received his departure from this office at his own request. In 1582 he became a preacher in Friedberg, where he stayed until his death.
His most important works are a Latin translation of the Gesta Danorum published in 1576 and the Chronica turcica , published in three volumes by Sigmund Feyerabend in 1584 .
