Philipp Mathmann

Philipp Mathmann (* 1986 in Lippstadt ) is a German opera singer ( countertenor , soprano ) and doctor .

Life

Philipp Mathmann grew up in Lippstadt , where he was taught as a baritone by Friederike Vomhof-Surrey and received his first lessons as a countertenor from Heike Hallaschka.

He studied with Renate Faltin ( University of Music Hanns Eisler Berlin ) parallel to his studies in human medicine at the University of Münster . He received further impulses u. a. by Annette Goeres (Berlin), Ingeborg Danz, Kai Wessel and Barbara Schlick (Cologne), Antonio Lemmo (Rome), Nicholas Clapton and Dame Emma Kirkby (London).

Philipp Mathmann u. a. to the International Handel Festival in Göttingen, the Ludwigsburg Castle Festival , the Handel Festival in Halle , the Bremen Music Festival, the Oude Muziek Festival in Utrecht, the MAfestival Bruges , the Styriarte in Graz, the Festival della Valle d'Itria in Italy and to the Cologne Philharmonic, the Tonhalle in Düsseldorf, the Frankfurt Opera, the TivoliVredenburg in Utrecht, the Theater an der Wien, the State Theater Mainz, the Aalto Theater in Essen. In addition to orchestras such as the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra , Concerto Köln , the Ensemble Questa Musica in Moscow, the Orkiestra Historyczna, Armonia Atenea, I Barocchisti , the Ensemble 1700, his musical partners also included conductors and artists from the international early music scene such as George Petrou, Christophe Rousset , Gianluca Capuano, Philipp Chizhevskiy, Martyna Pastuszka, Dorothee Oberlinger and Diego Fasolis .

Mathmann has worked in productions for ARTE, Deutschlandfunk, Hessischer Rundfunk, WDR, Dutch Classical Radio (NPO Radio 4) and Moscow24.

In addition to his vocal training, he completed a medical degree at the University of Münster as well as basic ENT training and completed a large part of his additional training as a specialist in phoniatrics and pediatric audiology with a focus on phonosurgery at the Charité University Medicine in Berlin. Since 2014, he has been the lead clinician in a German-English research cooperation in the field of musicians' medicine and vocal health with the Royal College of Music (Aaron Williamon) in London.
