Philipp Zeltner (* 1865 in Mainz ; † June 20, 1946 there ) was a German genre painter .

Born in the Mainz hop garden, Zeltner attended elementary and secondary school. He then learned the lithography trade in J. Scholz's art institute.

Since October 15, 1884 he studied at the Royal Academy of Arts in Munich with Johann Caspar Herterich and Wilhelm von Lindenschmit the Younger . Zeltner became a member of the Munich artists' association "Allotria" . He continued his studies during a stay in Karlsruhe and Paris .

He then did his military service as a one-year volunteer in the Mainz barracks. He gave the ladies of the regiment painting and drawing lessons.

Philipp Zelter worked as a drawing teacher at the Mainz School of Applied Arts. He also ran a private painting school that was housed in the Iron Tower .

In 1910 he created a view of his hometown for the small cruiser of the Imperial Navy "Mainz" . The ship sank on August 28, 1914 in a sea ​​battle near Helgoland .

In addition to the oil paintings, Zelter created wall paintings in many rooms in Mainz. Philipp Zeltner worked for the Fliegende Blätter .
