Philipp von Mauthner (born December 25, 1835 in Prague , † November 28, 1887 in Vienna ) was an Austrian lawyer .

He was the son of Israel Mauthner (1800-1857), a wealthy Jewish merchant in Prague (from 1848 in Vienna), and brother of Josef Mauthner , Max von Mauthner and Ludwig Mauthner .

Mauthner studied law in Vienna with a doctorate in 1859 and the bar examination in 1863. He was admitted to the bar in 1868 and was on the committee of the Lower Austrian Bar Association from 1878 to 1887 and then deputy president.

Mauthner vehemently opposed limiting the number of admitted lawyers in Austria. He was regarded as a brilliant defense attorney in court, but later increasingly became a lawyer in banking (he was a long member of the Unionbank's board of directors) and railroad (participation in the nationalization of the Empress Elisabeth-Westbahn , renegotiation of the Northern Railway privilege , negotiations with the Hungarian government about the Northeast railway).

In 1887 Mauthner, who also served on the board of the Jewish Community of Vienna , was ennobled. After his death he was buried in the old Israelite part of the Vienna Central Cemetery . He left four children. Hans Mauthner (1866–1933), his eldest son, was a lawyer who advised the Rothschild family in Vienna for many years and was also Vice President of Creditanstalt ; he also rests in the Mauthner family crypt.
