Philippe Lécrivain

Philippe Lécrivain SJ (born August 1, 1941 in Le Blanc ; † April 13, 2020 in Paris ) was a French Jesuit , Roman Catholic theologian and historian .

Life

After completing his theological training, Philippe Lécrivain was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Rennes in 1968 . In 1978 he entered the novitiate of the Society of Jesus in Lyon. He studied sociology as well as medieval and modern history and received a doctorate in theology. From 1985 to 1987 he directed the first cycle of the Jesuit Center on Rue Blomet in Paris. He taught the history of Christianity and spirituality as well as the history and theology of religious life from 1987 to 2011 at the Center Sèvres and the Institut Catholique de Paris . He was also a lecturer at the Institut d'études politiques de Paris from 1991 to 1996 . Lécrivain was considered an expert on the history of religious life and the Society of Jesus .

On April 13, 2020, Philippe Lécrivain died at the age of 78 during the COVID-19 pandemic in France at the Hôpital Saint-Joseph in Paris as a result of a SARS-CoV-2 infection.
