Heinrich Leopold Karl von Bötticher (born February 28, 1826 in Danzig , † May 26, 1891 in Wiesbaden ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

Karl was a son of the Prussian lieutenant colonel Leopold von Bötticher (1773-1830) and his second wife Friederike, née von Wnuck (1800-1872).

Military career

After attending the St. Petri School in his hometown and the cadet houses in Kulm and Berlin , Bötticher was transferred to the 5th Infantry Regiment of the Prussian Army on August 10, 1848 as a porter ensign. He was promoted to secondary lieutenant in mid-May 1844 , was an investigative officer in his regiment from March 1849 and attended the General War School from October 1850 to July 1853 for further training . By the end of May 1859, Bötticher was promoted to captain and in August 1859 was commanded as a company commander in the 1st Battalion in the 5th Landwehr Regiment. In May of the following year, this association formed the trunk of the 5th Combined Infantry Regiment, from which the 8th East Prussian Infantry Regiment No. 45 emerged at the beginning of July 1860 . From mid-October 1860 Bötticher was company commander and at the end of February 1861 was transferred to the 4th East Prussian Grenadier Regiment No. 5 in the same capacity. In the war against Austria he led his company in the battles of Trautenau and Königgrätz in 1866 and received the Order of the Red Eagle, IV class with swords , for his work .

As major and commander of the 2nd Battalion, Bötticher took part in the war against France in 1870/71 in the battles at Gravelotte and Noisseville and the siege of Metz . Awarded the Iron Cross 2nd class, he was transferred to Mainz on January 1, 1872 as commander of the 1st Battalion in the 3rd Grand Ducal Hessian Infantry Regiment (Leib Regiment) No. 117 after the peace agreement . At the end of February 1874 he took over the fusilier battalion and in this capacity rose to lieutenant colonel in mid-September 1874. After being promoted to colonel , on October 1, 1876, he was appointed commander of the 2nd Nassau Infantry Regiment No. 88, which was also stationed in Mainz . Due to health reasons, Bötticher submitted his departure and was put up for disposition on November 2, 1882, conferring the character of major general with a pension .

family

Bötticher married Emma Hassel (1837-1891) on May 11, 1855 in Berlin. The daughter Anna (* 1860) emerged from the marriage.
