Philippe Piat (born June 18, 1942 in Casablanca ) is a former French football player and union leader . In the latter function, he is president of the French professional players' union UNFP to the present day and also heads the global trade union umbrella organization FIFPro .

Player career

Born in Morocco at the time , Philippe Piat first played in adulthood for the second division club AS Cannes and the amateur club Cercle Laïque Dijon . In 1965 the striker moved to the first division Racing Strasbourg . With the Alsatians he played 29 of the 38 point games, scored nine goals and finished the season as eighth in the league. But his name was missing in the final team that won the national cup ; he had scored a total of four of the six hits in the last sixteen and quarter-finals. There followed a year at AS Monaco , in which he even scored 16 goals, which earned him sixth place among the league goalscorer. Nevertheless, he returned to Strasbourg in 1967 , where he was the undisputed striker leader for the next three years and in 1970 - as the newly elected president of the professional footballers union (see below)  - with his team as fifth in the league, he achieved his best ranking to date. In the 1969/70 season, Piat's 20 league goals even meant fourth place among all goal scorers.

Nevertheless, he then signed with FC Sochaux , with whom he even finished the 1971/72 season in third place in Division 1 and in 1971, as in 1972, again appeared high on the scorer list (21 and 17 hits, 5th and 8th). Rank). In the winter break of 1972/1973 Piat returned after a total of 240 first division games in which he scored 101 goals but had not won a title, back to the second division; at Stade Laval he ended his playing career in 1974.
