Philippe Pozzo di Borgo (born February 14, 1951 in Tunis , Tunisia ) is a former French entrepreneur who comes from an old Corsican noble family. He has been paralyzed since an accident while paragliding in 1993 . His life story is the basis of the films Pretty Best Friends and Mein Bester & Ich .

Life

Pozzo di Borgo's family had both a city ​​palace , a Hôtel particulier in Paris' 7th arrondissement , which was rented to the fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld for years and was sold to the African country Gabon in 2009 , and a castle in Corsica, which is now the government of the department Corse-du-Sud heard.

Until his accident in 1993, Pozzo di Borgo was the manager of the Pommery champagne house . In a serious accident with a paraglider in the Savoy Alps , he was completely immobile and suffers from quadriplegia . His first wife, Béatrice, with whom he has two children, died three years after his accident of longstanding cancer. This event plunged him into depression. He overcame this in the following years with the help of his caretaker, the Algerian-born Abdel Yasmin Sellou.

The publication of his book about his condition and the help of the carer resulted in Pozzo di Borgo's book Le Second souffle , which was the basis for the 2011 film Intouchables with the actors François Cluzet and Omar Sy . The German title is Pretty Best Friends . The film has been remade internationally several times.

Philippe Pozzo di Borgo is married for the second time. He lives with his wife Khadija and their two daughters alternately in his family's castle from the 1890s in Dangu in Normandy , which belongs to him and his siblings, and in Essaouira on the Atlantic coast in Morocco .
