The Philippine Tailless Leaf-Nose ( Coelops robinsoni hirsutus ) belongs to the genus of the Tailless Leaf-Nose and is only native to the Philippine islands of Mindoro and Mindanao . It occasionally counts as a separate species with the scientific name Coelops hirsutus . These bats reach a head-torso length of 34 mm. As with the other species of the genus, their ears are relatively large and round with an antitragus. As the German trivial name suggests, the tail is missing or just an inconspicuous stub. Their back fur is gray or brown, the belly is lighter gray or brown in color. The nose sheet has a horseshoe-shaped basic shape as the other hipposideridae. Other smaller parts of the nasal blade are usually hidden under tight, stiff hair.

Home of the Filipino Tailless Leaf-noses

The habitat of the bats is limited to the two islands with their forest habitat, subtropical to tropical lowlands and subterranean, non- aquatic habitats. The Filipino Tailless Leaf-nose lives in caves or hollow trees. It feeds on insects.

This species is difficult to study. Only one survey was carried out with harp traps that are suitable for this species. It is becoming apparent that the species is more common than previously assumed. They are difficult to trace, which is why it is believed that they can also appear on the neighboring islands between Mindoro and Mindanao. The species is also believed to have declined due to the loss of its forest habitat due to agriculture, timber harvesting , mining, and urbanization .
