Occurrence
Parent taxon Eukaryotes

The phosphomevalonate kinase (PMKase) is the enzyme that in eukaryotes the phosphorylation of phosphomevalonate catalyzes a partial step in the biosynthesis of isoprenoids . PMKase is localized in the cytosol of the peroxisomes . In the human body it is mainly expressed in the heart , liver , muscles , kidneys and pancreas .

Catalyzed reaction

Phosphomevalonate+ ATPDiphosphomevalonate+ ADP

5-Phospho- R -mevalonate is converted to 5-Diphospho- R -mevalonate.
