features

The bugs grow to be 4.5 to 6.0 millimeters long. The Central European species of the genus Phylus are relatively long and slender and can be determined fairly reliably from the color of their head and the hemielytras .

Occurrence and habitat

The species occurs in Europe , east to the Caucasus and in southern Europe only in the west to Spain . The species is widespread and common in Germany and Austria.

Way of life

The bugs can be found on various deciduous trees, but they only suckle on the leaves and immature reproductive organs of oaks ( Quercus ). Occasionally, however, you can see them suckling on aphids and other small insects. The adult bugs appear from late May to August. The females lay their eggs on the young shoots of the food plants near the base of the petioles.
