Physalis melanocystis is a plant type from the genus of jujubes ( Physalis ) in the family of the nightshade family (Solanaceae).

description

Physalis melanocystis is a woody, branching plant that is hairy with short, unbranched, protruding or upwardly attached trichomes . The leaf blades of the leaves are lanceolate to ovate-lanceolate or rhombic-lanceolate and are 4 to 10 cm long and 1.5 to 5 cm wide on the larger leaves. The leaf stalks are 5 to 20 cm long.

The flowers are in the armpits in clusters (rarely only one) three to six on stems with a length of 4 to 10 mm. The crown is 8 to 10 mm long and 12 to 18 mm in diameter. The coronet is wheel-shaped or curved-back. The outer part of the coronet is divided into egg-shaped to triangular-egg-shaped corolla lobes 3 to 6 mm in length. The petals are marked, but these are not clearly highlighted. The anthers are colored yellow, 3 to 4 mm long and are attached to stamens with a length of 1 to 2 mm.

On the fruit, the stalks extend to 10 to 15 mm. The rapidly enlarging calyx reaches a length of 17 to 25 mm and a width of 15 to 18 mm. It surrounds a spherical berry with a diameter of 10 to 13 mm.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 24.

Occurrence and locations

The species is distributed in Mexico in the states of San Luis Potosí and Guerrero as well as in Guatemala .
