Piening Propeller , officially Otto Piening Schiffspropeller und Wellenanlagen GmbH is a German mechanical engineering company.
history
1928 Otto Piening founded a locksmith workshop for motorcycles , developed out of the current company.
After repairing a propeller for a fishing boat, Otto Piening recognized the potential of this marine propulsion system and gradually established his workshop into a sought-after manufacturer of ship propellers that were installed in fishing boats , coasters and large, sophisticated motor boats. The propellers were cast in Neumünster , turned in Elmshorn and ground and finished in Glückstadt .
In 1952 a foundry was set up in Glückstadt so that the propellers could be molded and cast in our own workshop. This increased the vertical range of manufacture and independence from other companies. From the 1970s onwards, the decline in German fishing and the closure of many small shipyards resulted in a growing turn to foreign customers, which increased the export share . Over time, the production of complete propulsion systems developed from the pure propeller production.
Manufacturing spectrum
At the end of 2009, the company had 67 employees and today, with its propeller systems, it covers a demanding niche in the maritime supply sector. This niche is particularly formed by mega- yachts , naval ships and the ships of pilots and coast guards. In addition to propellers and propeller shafts, the company's production spectrum also includes stern tubes , liners, seals, shaft brackets and rudder shafts with coker tubes . The quality of Piening Propeller has been certified by the certification company Germanischer Lloyd Certification for the development, manufacture and sale of propellers and shaft systems as well as for the repair and service of propulsion systems in accordance with ISO 9001: 2000.
Propellers and complete drive systems from Piening were used on many fishing ships, yachts, speedboats, government ships and special ships.
