Career
Matt Martin began his career as a hockey player with the Sarnia Sting , for which he was active in the Canadian Junior League Ontario Hockey League from 2006 to 2009 . During this period he was selected in the NHL Entry Draft 2008 in the fifth round as a total of 148th player by the New York Islanders , for which the winger made his debut in the National Hockey League in the 2009/10 season . He gave two assists in five games. However, he spent the rest of the season with the Islanders' farm team , the Bridgeport Sound Tigers , in the American Hockey League . After seven years in New York, his contract was not renewed after the 2015/16 season, so Martin joined the Toronto Maple Leafs as a free agent in July 2016 .
