Pier Francesco da Viterbo

Pier Francesco da Viterbo (* around 1470 in Viterbo , † around 1535 in Florence ) was an Italian architect of the Renaissance . He made a name for himself as a fortress architect.

Since Viterbo was initially in the service of Pope Clement VII. From 1525 he directed the construction of the land fortifications of Venice . He also took part in the construction of the fortifications of Verona , Lodi and Padua . From 1534 he was busy building the Fortezza da Basso in Florence . He then worked on the fortifications of Pesaro and Senigallia . He worked several times with Antonio da Sangallo the Younger . He then entered the service of Pope Paul III.
