Pierre-Paul Botta

Pierre-Paul Botta (born May 3, 1741 in Wissembourg , † July 28, 1795 in Vannes ( Département Morbihan )) was a Général de brigade during the French Revolution .

Military career

On May 3, 1757 he joined the Régiment de Normandie as a simple soldier and took part in the campaigns of the Seven Years' War in Germany in 1760 and 1761 . He fought on October 15, 1760 in the battle of Kampen Abbey . On February 26, 1763 he was promoted to corporal, on November 1 of the same year to sergent and on September 1, 1765 appointed sergent-fourrier .

Commanded on the islands of France and Bourbon , he was appointed Adjudant on June 16, 1776 , on March 20, 1778 as Sous-lieutenant Porte-drapeau and on June 8, 1881 as Quartier-maître trésorier . In 1782 he was involved in the campaign to Geneva. On May 4, 1789 Botta was promoted to Capitaine by certification . On January 23, 1791, he was awarded the Order Chevalier de Saint-Louis .

On August 29, 1793 he received the epaulettes of a Chef de bataillon and was commissioned to organize the 17 e demi-brigade de bataille on the train of the Premier amalgam . Eventually he was given command of this demi-brigade and was promoted to chief de brigade on September 1 of the same year .

Used in the army on the coast of Brest , he was provisionally promoted to the Général de brigade by the Général de division Lazare Hoche on July 16, 1795 before the Battle of Quiberon . During the battle, he was seriously wounded in the leg on July 21, 1795 (3 thermidor de l'an III) at the head of a column attacking Fort de Penthièvre .

Transported to Vannes, he had to undergo an amputation and died of his wound on July 28, 1795.
