Pierre Coupel

Pierre Coupel (born September 23, 1899 in Coutances , Département Manche , † July 1, 1983 ) was a French building researcher .

Pierre Coupel graduated as an architect and worked from 1931 to 1946 for the French antiquities administration in Syria and Lebanon . From 1956 he worked for the Service d'architecture antique of the CNRS in Paris (today Institut de recherche sur l'architecture antique). He conducted research in Syria ( Baalbek , Krak des Chevaliers , Philippopolis ) and Asia Minor, where he carried out excavations in Xanthos with Pierre Demargne and Pierre Devambez from 1958 and with Henri Metzger from 1963 .
