Pierre Daret

Pierre Daret , actually Pierre Daret de Cazeneuve (* around 1604 in Paris , † March 29, 1678 at La Luque Castle near Dax (Landes) ) was a French painter and engraver .

After training in painting and engraving, Daret stayed in Italy for a few years . In his early work, the focus was on oil painting, and later Daret switched to copperplate engraving.

Daret was based on French, Italian and Dutch masters of the 17th century, such as Federico Barocci , Jacques Blanchard , Caravaggio , Annibale Carracci , Lodovico Carracci , Anthonis van Dyck , Justus van Egmont , Guido Reni , Jacques Sarazin , Gerard Seghers , Jacques Stella , Eustache Le Sueur and Simon Vouet .

At the age of almost 75, Pierre Daret died on March 29, 1678 at La Luque Castle near Dax.

All of Daret's artistic work is evidence of accuracy and attention to detail. Many realistic portraits of his contemporaries have come down through him. He published u. a. together with his colleague Louis Boissevin a series of 76 portraits “Famous Men of the 17th Century” and was also active as a writer.
