Jacques Blanchard
Jacques Blanchard (born October 1, 1600 in Paris ; † 1638 ibid) was a French Baroque painter .
Life
Jacques' father represented his hometown Condrieu in Paris and had married into the Parisian painting family Baullery (also Bolleri). Jacques Blanchard was apprenticed to his uncle Nicolas Baullery (1560-1630) with his brother Jean Baptiste (1595–1665) in 1613 . From 1620 to 1623 Jacques Blanchard worked for the Lyon city painter Horace Le Blanc (1575–1637). In October 1624 he went to Rome with his brother . In April 1626 he went to Venice . There Jacques Blanchard studied the colourists - especially Titian . In Turin in the spring of 1628 he created around eight paintings for the Duke of Savoy . In 1629 he arrived in Paris. On the way home he had portrayed Horace Le Blanc in Lyon. From then on he lived in Paris. In 1636 he was appointed Peintre de cour . He exchanged ideas with the painters Simon Vouet , Louis Boullogne and Claude Vignon .
Gabriel Blanchard was married twice. His two daughters died shortly after their wedding. The son Gabriel Blanchard (1630–1704) was a painter.
Gabriel Blanchard died of pneumonia.

In addition, Antoine-Joseph Dezallier d'Argenville tells us that Jacques Blanchard created around seventy engravings . Some of them are now owned by the Louvre, the Musée Condé and the Musée des Beaux-Arts (Rennes).
Exhibitions in the 20th century took place in Paris in 1934, 1960 and 1989, in Stockholm in 1958 and in Rennes in 1998.
