Jacques Sarazin

Jacques Sarazin , even Sarrazin written (* 1592 in Noyon , † 3. December 1660 in Paris ) was a French sculptor of the Baroque .

He learned and worked in Rome from 1610 to 1627 with Jean Languille , a French woodcarver, and met contemporary baroque artists, especially the painter Domenichino from Bologna and the Flemish sculptor François Duquesnoy .

In 1631 he married Simon Vouet's niece , and worked on his instructions for ten years. He then took part in the work on the Louvre after the Fronde , where he was in charge of the furnishings from 1639 to 1642.

In 1648 he was one of the founders of the Académie royale de peinture et de sculpture , which served as its director from 1654 to 1660.
