Pierre François Tardieu (born December 24, 1711 in Paris ; † January 15, 1771 there ) was a French engraver .

biography

He was the son of the copper master craftsman Claude Tardieu and his wife Marceline Pingat. Claude was the brother of Pierre Alexandre Tardieu . He was trained by his uncle Pierre Alexandre.

All that is known about his life is that he was married twice. His first wife Jeanne Mauvais died in 1756. A year later, in 1757, he married Marie-Anne , the daughter of the engraver Alexis Étienne Rousselet . His nephew, Antoine François Tardieu , whose godfather he was, signed in the early years of his work with the initials Pierre François PFT.

Some of his works were also found in Heinrich von Brühl's collection .

He engraved architectural sheets and maps, as well as historical scenes, as well as legends of the gods and, last but not least, fables based on Jean de La Fontaine , based on models by well-known painters and other engravers .
