Pierre Lanfranchi

Pierre Lanfranchi (born April 22, 1959 in Constantine , Algeria ) is a French historian who is particularly concerned with the history of football .

biography

Lanfranchi was born in Algeria , which was then still French ; he studied history and art history at the University of Montpellier , at the Institute for European History in Mainz and at the European University Institute in Florence . In 1988 he obtained his doctorate with a thesis on the information policy of the German press in the First World War.

Since 1993, Pierre Lanfranchi has been working as a Research Professor at De Montfort University in Leicester , where he helped establish the courses in Sport, History and Culture as well as in Management, Law, History and Geography of Sport at the International Center for Sports History and Culture . He has also been visiting professor at the University of San Marino since 1996 and has lectured on the history and the economic, social and cultural backgrounds of football at numerous European universities. Since 2006 he has also been research coordinator at the Center International d'Étude du Sport in Neuchâtel, Switzerland . Since 2008 he has headed the World Economic Forum Commission on the Role of Sport in Today's Societies.

He has also been organizing international congresses and symposia on football history topics since the 1990s, and is a scientific advisor to FIFA and the history committee of the Italian Football Association . He lives in Tuscany .
