Pierre Millière

Pierre Millière (born December 1, 1811 in Saint-Jean-de-Losne , France , † May 29, 1887 in Cannes ) was a French entomologist .

Live and act

As a trained pharmacist , he devoted himself to his hobby, butterflies . As part of his scientific work, Millière published a total of 35 editions (collected in 3 volumes) of Iconographie et description de Chenilles et Lépidoptères inédits between 1859 and 1874 . Paris, F. Savy.

His collections of large butterflies and hornbills are kept in the Palais Coburg in Vienna . Most of the small butterfly collection is housed in the Muséum national d'histoire naturelle , the national museum of natural history in Paris , while a small part is also in the natural history museum of Leiden .

Memberships

In 1843 Millière was introduced by Pèdre Ormancey as member number 285 of the Société cuviérienne .
