Pierre Olivier Joseph Coomans (born June 28, 1816 in Brussels , † December 31, 1889 in Boulogne-Billancourt ) was a Belgian painter and father of the painters Diana (1861-1952) and Heva (1864-1939) Coomans.

Coomans studied painting with Pieter Van Hanselaere in Ghent, then at the Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp with Nicaise de Keyser and Gustave Wappers . After completing his studies, he came to Paris , and with the French army he came to Algeria , where he stayed for several years. He also visited Italy , Turkey , Greece and the Crimea .

In Italy he visited the excavations at Pompeii in 1857 . From 1860 he worked again in Paris.

Coomans visited the United States with his daughters . His works, as well as those of his daughters, were highly valued there and found in many American collections.

He was married twice: with Zoé van Male de Brachene (1807-1848) and with Adelaïde Lacroix (1838-1884). From the first marriage he had a son Oscar-Jean Cooman (1848-1884), from the second two daughters.
