Pierre Rey (born April 27, 1930 in Bédarrides near Avignon , † July 22, 2006 in Paris ) was a French journalist and writer.

Life

Pierre Rey originally turned to the fine arts. His drawings appeared in almost all of the major French newspapers and magazines. But he soon proved his talent for writing and turned to the social events of Paris: 1959 with Paris-Presse , from 1963 with Paris-Jour . In 1963 he received the Prix de la Chronique parisienne and in 1965 he was first editor-in-chief and later director of Marie Claire . In 1973 he finally decided to become a writer.

Good friends with many Hollywood stars and Parisian celebrities, Rey addressed the glamor and misery of this world in numerous of his books. His first novel The Greek (1973) about the Greek shipowner and billionaire Aristotle Onassis and his stormy relationship with the opera singer Maria Callas , became a bestseller that sold a million times . It was followed by: La veuve (The Widow) (1976), Out (1977), Palm Beach (1979), Sunset (1988).

In 1979 Rey began treatment with the Pope of French psychoanalysis Jacques Lacan . After ten years of analysis on Lacan's couch, he gave moving evidence of this time in 1989 with his book Une Saison chez Lacan (A Season at Lacan). "The analysis turned me inside out," said Rey, who was now forced to write books of success in order to be able to pay the sinfully expensive fee for Lacan.

Other novels followed: Bleu Ritz (1990), Liouba (1992), Le rocher (The Rock) (1995), then L'ombre du paradis (Shadows in Paradise) (2001) - again a bestseller . As a cosmopolitan , Rey was constantly traveling between Hollywood , Dublin , Rome and Paris, which he commented with " My home is Air France ". Looking back on his life, he said:

"J'ai vécu chaque jour de ma vie comme si j'allais mourir dans 5 minutes"
