Pierre Woeiriot de Bouzey , (*  1532 in Neufchâteau , †  1599 in Damblain ) was a French painter, engraver and medalist .

Life

Pierre Woeiriot was born in Neufchâteau in the Vosges department in the Lorraine region. Goldsmith like father and grandfather, from around 1555 onwards he mainly devoted himself to copperplate engraving. In addition to book illustrations, these were primarily portraits of contemporaries, such as Louise Labé and the instrument maker Caspar Tieffenbrucker . He lived and worked alternately in Lyon and Nancy . Under the influence of the poet Louis Des Masures (1515–1574), he converted to Protestantism and created two portraits of the reformer John Calvin . From 1561 to 1580 he illustrated the Old Testament for the merchant Antoine God. After a stay in Augsburg , he settled in Damblain in the Vosges department in 1571 . He died there in 1599.
