Peter (Vendôme)
Peter von Vendôme (French: Pierre ; * around 1200 ; † March 25, 1249 in Nicosia ) was Count of Vendôme from the House of Montoire . He was a son of Count John IV and his wife Églantine (Agnes).
Life
As Count of Vendôme, Peter was a vassal of the County of Anjou , but was initially a direct vassal of the crown after taking over his inheritance in 1230, since Anjou belonged to the crown domain . However, this status changed in 1246 when the royal prince Karl was replaced by his older brother, King Ludwig IX. of France , was entrusted with Anjou, whereby Vendôme again moved down to an after-fief of the crown.
In order to end the generation-long dispute with the Vice Count of Châteaudun over sovereign rights on Mondoubleau , Peter and the Bishop of Chartres gave up their feudal rights to this rule, which they had held in equal parts, under royal pressure in 1248. In return, the count and bishop were given rulership rights to Roches Castle.
Peter took part in the Sixth Crusade from 1248 , in the course of which he died while the army was wintering in Cyprus . He was buried in the Saint-Georges church in Vendôme .
