Pieter Gallis (* 1633 in Enkhuizen , † 1697 in Hoorn ) was a Dutch bank director and painter of landscapes and still lifes .

Life

Gallis earned his living as a director of a local lending bank (ndl. Bank van Lening ). During the Golden Age, he painted landscapes and still lifes as a part-time job, which can be found today in the Rijksmuseum and in various museums in the Netherlands, such as the Westfries Museum, his city of activity, Hoorn. The Hamburger Kunsthalle owned a still life by Karl Haberstock until it was sold in 1924 , which was ascribed to the Hamburg painter Elias Galli until the signature was examined more closely . The mix-up between the two painters has been running through German art history, at least since Georg Kaspar Nagler via Alfred Lichtwark , but was dealt with by the Hamburg art historian Carl Schellenberg .

He worked in Enkhuizen (possibly also in Amsterdam), in Purmerend 1679–1683 and in Hoorn from 1683 until his death.
