Pieter Willem Korthals

Pieter Willem Korthals (born September 1, 1807 in Amsterdam , † February 8, 1892 in Haarlem ) was a Dutch botanist . Its botanical author abbreviation is “ Korth. "

Live and act

Korthals worked as a plant collector in Malesia . From 1831 to 1836 he was the official botanist at the Natuurkundige Commissie voor Nederlandsch Indië (Natural History Commission for the Dutch East Indies). Botany he was the first to describe the pitcher traps of carnivorous plants of the genus pitcher plants ( Nepenthes ).

Dedication names

The genera Korthalsella Tiegh. from the plant family of the sandalwood family (Santalaceae) and Korthalsia flower from the plant family of the palm family (Arecaceae) are named after him.
