Pietro Berti (politician, 1967)

Pietro Berti (* 1967 ) is a San Marinese politician . He was from October 1, 1998 to April 1, 1999 together with Paolo Bollini Capitano Reggente (Head of State).

Berti is a doctor by profession and worked as a general practitioner for the state social security Istituto di sicurezza sociale (ISS) in Serravalle . The multiple Minister and Capitano Reggente 1993/94, Gian Luigi Berti , who died in 2014 , was his uncle.

He was elected to the San Marinese parliament, the Consiglio Grande e Generale , for the Partito Democratico Cristiano Sammarinese (PDCS) in 1993 and 1998 . During this time the PDCS ruled together with the Partito Socialista Sammarinese (PSS). Berti was elected Capitano Reggente , head of state of San Marino, together with Paolo Bollini for the term of office from October 1, 1998 to April 1, 1999 .

The PSS left the government in 2000, the PDCS formed a new coalition together with Partito Progressista Democratico Sammarinese Idea in Movimento - Convenzione Democratica (PPDS – IM – CD) and the Socialisti per le Riforme (SpR), which broke up after just under a year . In the early elections in 2001, Berti ran again for the PDCS, but failed to make it into parliament. He subsequently joined the newly founded Alleanza Nazionale Sammarinese (ANS), for which he ran in the 2006 election. The ANS won only one seat. Berti, who reached number two on the list, again failed to make it into parliament. Berti later returned to the PDCS, in whose Central Council (Consiglio Centrale) he was elected in 2013.

In January 2014 Berti, who was accused of sexual harassment by several patients, was taken into custody. It became known that proceedings against Berti for a sexual offense had been pending in Catania, Sicily, since 2012 . In September 2014, the first instance sentenced him to four years' imprisonment for sexual harassment (molestie sessuali) , the verdict was reduced to three years and four months in prison and a three-year professional ban.
