Pietro Caminada

Pietro Caminada (born May 20, 1862 in Milan , † January 20, 1923 in Rome ) was an Italian engineer with Swiss roots.

Caminada was a son of from graubuendenCULTURE innovative Vrin emigrated Gion Antoni Caminada and Maria Turconi from Milan.

In the 1890s, Caminada made a name for himself in Rio de Janeiro as an engineer and urban planner. There he suggested the construction of the tram over the Arcos de Lapa and redesigned the port facility . He also drew up the first plans for the Brazilian capital Brasília .

Caminada returned to Italy around 1907 and caused a stir internationally with a major project: he planned a gigantic shipping route from Genoa via the Apennines and the Alps to Lake Constance . The project was never implemented for financial reasons.
