Pietro Giampaoli (born February 13, 1898 in Urbignacco di Buja , † February 27, 1998 in Rome ) was an Italian medalist and engraver .

Life

He comes from the province of Udine , Italy and was born there in Urbignacco di Buja on February 13, 1898. During the First World War he was taken prisoner of war in Hungary as a soldier. He learned the basics of engraving from a fellow Russian prisoner. After returning to Italy, he received his artistic training from 1920 at the Scuola di Brera in Milan, today Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera at university level. He studied engraving and sculpture with a focus on medal art . Pietro Giampaoli died in Rome on February 27, 1998 soon after his 100th birthday.

Act

Giampaoli became chief engraver of the Italian State Mint in Rome in 1936. After the Second World War , together with the designer Giuseppe Romagnoli, he created the first post-war coins in Italy. He later worked with Guido Veroi .
