Pile poil is a 2019 French short film by Lauriane Escaffre and Yvonnick Muller .

Christophe Duvivier is the owner of a butcher's shop, and his daughter Élodie, who has just turned 18, helps him in the shop. Élodie is about to graduate as a beautician. She still needs a model for the epilation for the exam , but it's summer and everyone she knows has been shaved. When she delivers rabbit parts to a customer, she meets her daughter Claire, whom she knows from before. She was abandoned by her friend Ludo and therefore "let herself go". Élodie is happy that she found her model for the exam the next day.
On the day of the test, Élodie is driven to the test site by Christophe. When she wants to pick up Claire, Ludo has just visited her. Both are back together and Claire has rushed to catch up on her beauty program. Élodie is desperate, but Christophe steps in without further ado. In addition to a cellulite massage and a nail varnish - Christophe praises his blue-lacquered fingernails - Élodie's tasks on the exam include an intimate waxing, which the examiners, to Christophes and Élodie's relief, soften into waxing half a leg. The exam brings Christophe and Élodie closer to each other and Christophe realizes how demanding Élodie's training was and how well she mastered everything. He is proud of her and will soon pick her up for work. He sees her meet up with friends, kiss one of the boys, and leave with the group, and resigns himself.

Pile poil was the fourth short film that Lauriane Escaffre and Yvonnick Muller co-directed. Escaffre can also be seen in a supporting role in the film. The idea for the film goes back to an experience Lauriane Escaffre had when she met a friend during a writing weekend who was looking for a non-shaved woman for her professional qualification (Certificat d'aptitude professionnelle, CAP) as a beautician in the middle of summer.
The shooting took place on four days in Oissel and Rouen and on two more days in Bordeaux . The costumes were created by Hélène Chancerel , the film construction came from Emmanuelle Hérondelle and Julien Renaud .
Pile poil had its premiere on January 16, 2019 at the L'Alpe d'Huez Festival international du film de comédie and subsequently ran at the Festival du Court-Métrage de Clermont-Ferrand, among others .
Awards
At the L'Alpe d'Huez Festival international du film de comédie, Pile poil won the award for the best comedy film in 2019 and also won the prix du Rire Fernand Raynaud of the Festival du Court-Métrage de Clermont-Ferrand in 2019.
Pile poil won the 2020 César in the Best Short Film category .
