The Acamarachi (also: Cerro Pili ) is a stratovolcano in northern Chile , 40 km southeast of Toconao and northeast of the volcanoes Aguas Calientes and Láscar . The volcano is located on the Puna de Atacama plateau .
Its height is 6046 m . The slope of the flanks reaches 45 degrees in places. There is a lava dome on the north side . It is the highest mountain in this part of the northern Andes . It forms the south-southeastern end of a small volcanic complex, which extends from the neighboring Colachi volcano in a north-northwest direction.
In its crater there is a lake with a diameter of 10 to 15 m. This is probably the second highest crater lake in the world and the second highest lake in South America after the one in the crater of Ojos del Salado . The volcano was a sanctuary of the Incas and a ritual place. Metal and textile objects from the Inca period were found.
The time of the last outbreak is unknown.
