The Pilot 6/22 HP was a car from the interwar period. The manufacturer was the German Pilot-Wagen AG from Bannewitz . The construction period was from 1921 to 1924.

description

The model was the first of this company. The designer Walter Wippermann based himself on the Bugatti Type 13 .

The four-cylinder in - line engine worked in the four-stroke process . A 69 mm bore and 100 mm stroke resulted in a displacement of 1495 cm³ . The four-valve technology was unusual . The engine developed 22 hp . The thermosiphon that time was not unusual.

The engine power was transmitted to the rear axle via an unsynchronized four-speed gearbox and a cardan shaft .

The chassis had a wheelbase of 260 cm and a track width of 120 cm . The vehicle was 350 cm long. The chassis weighed 670 kg.

The vehicle had the addition SP that stood for Sport Phaeton . Basically it was an open two-seater roadster with a jump seat . The maximum speed was given as 85 to 90 km / h.

The successor was the Pilot 6/30 HP .

In the first year there was about one vehicle per month and in the last year four in some months. The total number is said to have been around 70. It wasn't an economic success. The production of the engine in particular turned out to be too expensive. No existing vehicle is known.

motor race

The cars were also used in car races. Paul Lehmann took second place in the class up to 6 tax horsepower in the Sachsenfahrt , which took place on May 29 and 30, 1924 and led from Zwickau to Zittau .
