Storyline

Pinky and Brain first appeared in an episode of Animaniacs in September 1993 . This resulted in a spin-off of its own series about the two mice, which ran for four seasons (with a total of 65 half-hour episodes).

Pinky and the Brain lives from the repeatedly modified and applied to countless scenarios interpretation of the same basic theme, namely Brain's mostly absurd world conquest plans. Well-known scenarios and stories from film and literature are regularly quoted or parodied. The highest recognition value, however, has the same opening and closing sentences of the two prevented dictators.

In the sequel series Pinky, Elmyra & the Brain , the format was changed: Pinky and Brain left the Acme Labs and came to the Warner Bros. as pets . -Figur Elmyra (known from the Tiny Toons ). They tried several times to escape from the eight-year-old's reign of terror, but this was always doomed to failure.

main characters

Pinky

Pinky is a simple laboratory mouse, usually portrayed as extremely stupid. He has only a very limited interest in Brain's goal, world domination, but still mostly participates in Brain's plans. In some episodes Pinky has telekinetic abilities, for example he makes fruit float in a circle. Pinky often uses meaningless words like "Narf!", "Zort!", "Troz!" And "Poit!", Mostly at the end of a sentence. He is rambling, dreamy, enjoyable, playful, maternal-worried and childlike-chatting, but not egocentric like Brain. It is precisely through his naivete that he escapes many dangers. With his emotional intellect, he apparently by chance also succeeds in great philosophical throws and insights, but mostly at the wrong time.

Brain

Brain is a selfish, depressed perfectionist who pulls himself up on his ideas, which are sometimes criminal, who resolves conflicts violently and also uses punches instead of explanations. Brain received his intelligence during the genetic experiments in the laboratory, but physically he is puny with an oversized skull and a wrinkled face. In some episodes, when he has to do with people, he slips into his huge robot suit, which he controls while sitting in his throat. For a long time he has known only one goal - to usurp world domination. He eagerly forges plans every day, which he tries to carry out in the evening, when the laboratory is deserted. Although he is aware of the mental weaknesses of his companion Pinky, he always uses him as a helper with his often dangerous ideas. Brain never lets himself be discouraged by the regular failure of his plans. It is characteristic of Brain to approach tasks scientifically and intellectually. He uses his friends around him like tools. He rarely shows emotion unless it is useful to manipulate large crowds. His compulsion to plan everything down to the smallest detail is usually not particularly successful.

Snowball

Snowball is a hamster and has the same goal as Brain. The two have long been rivals. On Snowball's first appearance, Brain Pinky confesses that he and Snowball used to be good friends - before the accident made them intelligent and domineering. At one point, Brain even realizes that he only wants to gain world domination to protect humanity from Snowball and to help it. Snowball is mostly unsuccessful in its plans. His main skill is to hinder his rivals in their work.

Adaptations

  • Comic: Based on the television series, DC Comics published a comic book adaptation in the USA . The series published a total of 27 issues from July 1996 to November 1998. The comics were also about Brain's attempts to usurp world domination. In reverse to the history of the television series, the comics in the USA first appeared as an independent series, before they found their way into the parallel Animaniacs comic series after the title was discontinued .
In Germany, the comic was published monthly from February 1999 to June 2000 as Pinky and Brain by Dino Verlag . It represented a takeover of the American comic material in a new arrangement. The German editions were usually more extensive than the American ones. The merchandising series was discontinued after just 17 issues (44 pages each and special covers) . Finally, a special volume appeared in August 2000, which was a reprint of the first four Pinky and Brain issues (1/1999 to 4/1999). Several of the stories available in the American original were no longer published in German.
