Pirro Kondi

Pirro Kondi (* 1924 in Zagorie , Gjirokastra County ) is a former Albanian politician of the Labor Party of Albania (PPSh).

biography

Kondi was elected for the first time as a member of the People's Assembly ( Kuvendi Popullor ) in 1954 and belonged to it from the third to fifth legislative period until 1966. In addition, he was a member of the Central Committee (ZK) of the PPSh for many years . At the 3rd party congress of the PPSh in June 1956, he was elected head of the Central Committee's organizational department. At the 5th party congress of the PPSh in November 1966, however, he was "demoted" and instead of a member was only a candidate for the Central Committee.

In August 1985 Kondi, a conservative hardliner, succeeded Foto Çami as 1st Secretary of the PPSh in Tirana . This was the first personnel decision of the then First Secretary of the PPSh Ramiz Alia after the death of Enver Hoxha and was considered a sign of maintaining the previous course, especially since Kondi was a loyal supporter of Hoxha and several praise articles about Hoxha in the party newspaper Rruga ë Partisë and attacked Hoxha's internal party opponents such as Koçi Xoxe , Beqir Balluku , Mehmet Shehu and others.

Although Kondi was not among the leading politicians of the PPSh up to this point, he was able to base his political influence on family relationships. His sister Vito was a member of the Central Committee herself for many years and later also Minister for Light Industry for a few years and was also married to Hysni Kapo , a long-time Central Committee secretary and closest confidante of Hoxha.

At the 9th party congress of the PPSh in November 1986, he also became a candidate for the Politburo of the party's Central Committee and held this post until his resignation in December 1990.

Between 1987 and 1991 he was again a member of the People's Assembly.

In 1996, together with Qirjako Mihali and Sulejman Bushati, he was charged with crimes against humanity and in August 1996 sentenced to 17 years in prison by a court in Tirana . The court ruling remained below the request of the public prosecutor , who had demanded 20 years imprisonment for him.
