Photo Çami

Foto Çami (* 1925 in Gjirokastra ) is a former Albanian politician of the Party of Labor of Albania (PPSh).

biography

In 1970 he was elected a member of the People's Assembly ( Kuvendi Popullor ) for the first time and was a member of it for the seventh electoral term until 1974. The politician, who belongs to the party's intelligentsia , was elected a member of the Central Committee (ZK) in 1971 .

Çami was 1st Secretary of the PPSh of Tirana for several years . At the 8th party congress of the PPSh in November 1981 he was also elected as a candidate for the Politburo of the PPSh . Between 1982 and 1991 he was again a member of the People's Assembly during the tenth and eleventh legislative periods .

In July 1985, he succeeded Ramiz Alia, who was elected First Secretary of the PPSh, and finally became Secretary of the Central Committee of the PPSh. Pirro Kondi , a well-known hardliner brother-in-law of the influential Central Committee Secretary Hysni Kapo, who died in 1979, was succeeded as first secretary of the PPSh in Tirana . In the party newspaper Zëri i Popullit, he wrote several articles of praise for First Secretary Enver Hoxha , who died in 1985 , in which, however, he did not attack Hoxha's internal party opponents such as Koçi Xoxe , Beqir Balluku , Mehmet Shehu and others as usual .

At the 9th party congress of the PPSh in November 1986 he was elected a member of the Politburo. He was a member of this supreme body of the party until he left in December 1990.

In 1993 Çami and nine other former high-ranking officials ( Muho Asllani , Besnik Bekteshi , Vangjel Çërrava , Hajredin Çeliku , Lenka Çuko , Llambi Gegprifti , Qirjako Mihali , Pali Miska and Prokop Murra ) were charged with enriching public money. Because of these crimes, a court in Tirana finally led to convictions with the following imprisonment sentences : Mihali and Gegprifti each eight years, Miska and Çuko each seven years, Çami, Çeliku and Bekteshi each six years and Çërrava, Murra and Asllani each five years.
