Qirjako Mihali
Qirjako Mihali (born May 13, 1929 in Korça ) is a former Albanian politician of the Party of Labor of Albania .
Life
Mihali began his career as a functionary of the PPSh in the economic sector and was most recently director of the Azotik nitrogen factory in Fier from 1967 to 1975 .
In January 1975 he was elected as a successor to the candidate of the Politburo of the PPSh . He held this position until he left in December 1990. Along with Hekuran Isai , Pali Miska and Llambi Gegprifti, he belonged to a new generation of leaders within the party, which gained influence when relations with the People's Republic of China were broken off .
On November 26, 1977 he was appointed Deputy Chairman of the Council of Ministers in the government of Prime Minister Mehmet Shehu . After Shehu's death, he was also considered to be his possible successor as chairman of the Council of Ministers. He also held the position of Vice Prime Minister in the subsequent cabinet of Prime Minister Adil Çarçani until February 20, 1987.
In 1978 he became a member of the People's Assembly ( Kuvendi Popullor ) for the first time and was a member of it in the ninth to the eleventh electoral term.
On January 15, 1982, Prime Minister Çarçani appointed him to succeed Haki Toska as Minister of Finance . He held this office until he was replaced by Niko Gjyzari on February 17, 1984.
Most recently he was governor of the Albanian State Bank ( Banka e Shtetit Shqiptar ) from March 1989 to December 1990 .
In 1993 Mihali and nine other former high-ranking officials ( Muho Asllani , Besnik Bekteshi , Foto Çami , Hajredin Çeliku , Vangjel Çërrava , Lenka Çuko , Pali Miska and Prokop Murra ) were charged with enriching public money. Because of these offenses, there was finally a court in Tirana to the following sentences to prison terms : Mihali and Gegprifti eight years Miska and Çuko each seven years Cami, Çeliku and Bekteshi of six years and Çërrava, Murra and Asllani five years.
In 1996, together with Pirro Kondi and Sulejman Bushati, he was charged with crimes against humanity and in August 1996 sentenced to 17 years in prison by a court in Tirana . The court ruling remained below the request of the public prosecutor , who had demanded 20 years imprisonment for him.
