Vito Kapo

Vito Kapo ( maiden name: Vito Kondi ) (born November 9, 1922 in Zagorie , Gjirokastra district ; † February 29, 2020 in Tirana ) was an Albanian politician of the Labor Party of Albania .

Life

Vito Kondi, who took part in the communist anti-fascist war of independence during the Second World War from 1942 to 1944 , married Hysni Kapo in 1945 , who later worked as Secretary of the Central Committee (ZK) of the PPSh after the First Secretary of the Central Committee Enver Hoxha and until his death in 1979 Prime Minister Mehmet Shehu was the third most powerful politician in the PPSh's Politburo .

During the time of the People's Republic of Albania, she was one of the most influential politicians in the country alongside Nexhmije Hoxha and Fiqret Shehu , the wives of Hoxha and Shehu. Liri Belishova and later Lenka Çuko , the only woman after Belishova to become a member of the Politburo, also belonged to this group until she was ousted in 1960 .

In 1950 Vito Kapo was elected member of the People's Assembly ( Kuvendi Popullor ) for the first time and was a member of the Përmet district from the second to the end of the eleventh legislative period until 1991.

In 1955 she succeeded Nexhmije Hoxha as chairwoman of the women's association of the PPSh and held this position until 1982.

In addition, she was a candidate for the Central Committee of the PPSh before she became a member of the Central Committee at the 4th Party Congress of the PPSh in February 1961. In addition, she was a member of the Presidium of the People's Assembly, whose chairman was President Haxhi Lleshi .

At the UN World Conference on Women in Copenhagen in 1980 , she gave a speech entitled “Women's freedom is won in a determined and uncompromising struggle against the system of exploitation and oppression”.

On November 23, 1982, she was appointed to succeed Esma Ulqinaku as Minister for Light and Food Industry in the government of Prime Minister Adil Çarçani . She held this office until she was replaced by Bashkim Sykja on July 9, 1990, most recently since February 20, 1987, when she was only the minister for light industry and the ministry for the food industry.

Her younger brother Pirro Kondi was among other things 1st secretary of the PPSh of Tirana and at times a candidate for the Politburo.
