Pishchane ( Ukrainian Піщане ; Russian Песчаное Pestschanoje ) is a village in the south of the Ukrainian Poltava Oblast with about 4900 inhabitants (2001).

geography

Pishchane is located near the bank of the 87 km long Suchyj Kahamlyk ( Сухий Кагамлик ) shortly before its confluence with the Dnieper . The village borders on the northwest of the urban area of Kremenchuk and is located 115 km southeast of the Poltava oblast center . The N 08 road runs through the village .

Pishchane is the administrative center of the rural municipality of the same name ( сільська громада ) in Kremenchuk Raion with a total of 7500 inhabitants, to which the villages are added

  • Horyslawzi ( Гориславці , ) with about 550 inhabitants,
  • Korschiwka ( Коржівка , ) with about 30 inhabitants,
  • Kowaliwka ( Ковалівка , ) with about 170 inhabitants,
  • Krywuschi ( Кривуші , ) with about 1100 inhabitants,
  • Mylowydiwka ( Миловидівка , ) with about 300 inhabitants and
  • Olefiriwka ( Олефірівка , ) with about 90 inhabitants belong.

history

Pishchane was founded by settlers from right-wing Ukraine . According to a census carried out in 1726, there were 20 houses in the village. After 1729/30 the village was mentioned as part of the Kremenchuk Hundred and the Myrhorod Regiment within the Cossack Hetmanate . During the German-Soviet War , the village was occupied by Wehrmacht troops from September 9, 1941 to September 29, 1943 .
