The Pitman River is an approximately 77 km long orographic right tributary of the Stikine River in the north of the Canadian province of British Columbia .

River course

The river has its source in the Stikine Ranges in the far north of the Cassiar Mountains . It arises at the confluence of several source streams at an altitude of 1000  m . The Pitman River flows west through the mountains. 23 km above the mouth, the Tucho River meets the Pitman River coming from the north. This finally flows into the Stikine River. In the upper and middle reaches of the river shows a strongly meandering behavior. The course of the Pitman River lies within the 163 km² Pitman River Protected Area .

Hydrology

The Pitman River drains an area of ​​2,730 km². The mean discharge is 13.7 m³ / s. The highest monthly discharges usually occur in June and are around 166 m³ / s.

Fish fauna

In the Pitman River system, a. the dolly varden trout and char ( salvelinus ).
