Pius Martin Maurer

Pius Martin Maurer OCist (* 1971 in Eggenburg in Lower Austria ) is an Austrian Cistercian , abbot of the Lilienfeld monastery , university professor for liturgical science , pastor in Lilienfeld and provisional in Traisen .

Life

Born in Eggenburg, Pius Martin Maurer spent his childhood in his hometown Unterdürnbach and, after completing elementary and secondary school, attended the secondary school in Hollabrunn , where he graduated from high school in 1989 and joined the Cistercian Abbey of Lilienfeld on August 19, 1989.

From 1990 to 1992 he studied at the Philosophical-Theological University of Heiligenkreuz and then continued his studies at the Pontifical Athenaeum Sant'Anselmo in Rome until 1997 , where he received his doctorate in 2002 as "Doctor in Sacra Liturgia" (SL.D.) . In between he took part in the academic year 1994/95 in the theological academic year Jerusalem in the Dormition Abbey in Jerusalem .

22 June 1996 or Maurer was in St. Stephen's Cathedral in Vienna from later Cardinal Archbishop Christoph Schoenborn , the ordination and celebrated on July 7, 1996, his home parish Unterdürnbach the first Mass . In 1998 he was appointed chaplain of Lilienfeld and novice master of the Lilienfeld monastery.

Maurer began teaching in 2003 as a lecturer in liturgical science at the Philosophical-Theological University of St. Pölten and at the Philosophical-Theological University of Heiligenkreuz.

In 2005 he was appointed prior of the Lilienfeld Monastery, professor for liturgical science at the Philosophical-Theological University of St. Pölten and a member of the liturgical commission for the diocese of St. Pölten.

Pius Martin Maurer has been the provisional officer of Traisen since December 1, 2011 and the pastor of Lilienfeld since September 1, 2012.

After Abbot Matthäus Nimmervoll resigned on May 15, 2019 due to illness , Pius Martin Maurer was elected 66th abbot of Lilienfeld Monastery on May 16, 2019. His motto is “My God, I trust in you” (Ps 25.2) / (Latin: “Deus meus, in te confido”). On 28 July 2019, took benediction as abbot under the Abbot General of the Cistercians, Mauro Giuseppe Lepori in a church service instead.
